5 May 2026 | Organizer: GENDRO & EASE
This webinar, jointly organized by GENDRO and EASE, marks the 10th anniversary of the publication of the SAGER guidelines on 3 May 2016. Since their launch, the SAGER guidelines have become a global framework guiding the research community in addressing persistent gender biases, and advancing sex- and gender-responsive, responsible research for better science.
This session brought together those behind the development of the SAGER guidelines and those advocating for their wide adoption, translation, and implementation. It also offered a space to reflect on the progress made over the past decade, the continued importance of advancing sex and gender equity in research, and the ongoing challenges and opportunities in the field.
Dr. Shirin Heidari, lead author of the SAGER guidelines, founding chair of EASE Gender Policy Committee, and Executive Director of GENDRO, reflected on the journey of this collective effort and the transformative potential of harmonised approaches to sex and gender integration in research. Dr. Sowmya Swaminathan from Springer Nature group shared insights on the opportunities and challenges of implementing the SAGER guidelines’ recommendations in academic publishing. Dr. Iryna Izarova highlighted EASE’s efforts to support the dissemination and broader uptake of the guidelines globally, beyond the English language. The session was chaired by Dr. Bahar Mehmani, President of EASE.
